In a proactive step toward early cancer detection and women’s health, the Tamil Nadu government has launched a massive door-to-door cancer screening campaign across Coimbatore city.
Focus on Women’s Health
Launched under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, this initiative specifically targets women aged 30 years and above to screen for breast, cervical, and oral cancers. These are among the most common cancers affecting Indian women, and early diagnosis can significantly improve survival rates.
How the Screening Works
The campaign involves trained health workers and volunteers visiting households in both urban and rural areas of Coimbatore. They educate residents about the importance of regular check-ups and conduct preliminary screenings, referring at-risk individuals for further medical evaluation.
Government’s Vision
According to health department officials, this initiative is a part of the state-wide cancer prevention mission, aimed at reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases through early intervention and raising awareness at the grassroots level.
This campaign highlights Tamil Nadu’s commitment to accessible, community-based preventive healthcare, especially for women who may otherwise not seek regular screenings due to social or financial constraints.
