Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 650-bed hospital at the Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput. The ₹280 crore facility marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the tribal and remote regions of southern Odisha.
The hospital is strategically located to serve patients from Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and even neighboring districts in Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, providing them access to advanced medical care closer to home.

Facilities and Special Features
- Comprehensive Diagnostic Services – Equipped with modern CT scan machines, dialysis units, and mammography equipment, enabling early detection and timely treatment of diseases.
- Critical Care Support – A dedicated oxygen plant has been installed to ensure uninterrupted oxygen supply for emergency and ICU patients.
- Cancer Care Expansion – A specialized cancer treatment center is being developed at the campus with an additional investment of ₹41.15 crore.
- Human Resource Strengthening – The government has assured filling all vacant positions for doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff to ensure quality service delivery.
Broader Impact
The inauguration is part of the state’s broader healthcare expansion plan aimed at reducing medical travel costs for patients from underserved regions. CM Majhi emphasized that this hospital will bridge the gap between urban and rural healthcare, making advanced treatment accessible to all.
In addition to healthcare initiatives, the Chief Minister also announced plans for the six-lane Jeypore–Berhampur–Bhubaneswar economic corridor, which is expected to boost connectivity, facilitate patient transportation, and promote regional development.
