Nagpur is set to witness a major boost in healthcare infrastructure as the Maharashtra government has sanctioned ₹1000 crore for the modernization and expansion of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Mayo Hospital. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has urged officials to complete all development work within one year to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.

The budget will be used to build new medical blocks, upgrade outpatient departments (OPD), develop advanced surgical units, and construct new hostels for medical students. This ambitious project aims to improve patient care facilities and provide a better learning environment for future doctors.

This initiative forms part of a larger effort to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure in Central India, ensuring accessible and quality medical services for a growing population. The government’s focus on expanding medical education and upgrading hospital facilities reflects its commitment to regional healthcare development.

Project officials have expressed confidence in meeting the one-year timeline, highlighting effective resource management and planning. The expansion will not only increase hospital capacity but also integrate modern medical technology and equipment.
